About Us
About Planet Family Guy
Planet Family Guy is a Family Guy news site first established back in 2000. Since then we have been delivering the latest news and information on Family Guy, American Dad, and the latest spin-off series The Cleveland Show.
Before 2007 the site operated as a general fansite for Family Guy with a sister site for American Dad providing in-depth episode and character guides in addition to news about the shows. However, the rise of sites like Wikipedia, the Family Guy Wiki, and the American Dad Wiki has made this aspect of the site somewhat redundant. These days Planet Family Guy focuses solely on providing news about the show and its spin-offs.
The Damn You All.net forums, a spin-off site from Planet Family Guy has been running since 2001 and has become a popular community for fans of Family Guy and American Dad. The ‘Tonight’ sections give fans the opportunity to discuss episodes in real-time as they go out on Fox and rate the episodes.
Comments
Planet Family Guy is a site worked on by the community for the community. We invite all visitors to the site to contribute their opinions by posting comments on our site; however, irrelevant and spam comments are not welcome. To reduce the amount of spam we get at Planet Family Guy we moderate all comments we receive before they appear on the site. You will also need to preview your comment prior to sending it for moderation (this is for spam-protection). We will try and accept comments as quickly as possible.
We require an e-mail address for you to be able to post comments on the site; however, don’t worry as this information is kept private and will not be divulged to others. Your e-mail address will not appear on the site. If you have a Gravatar account, then use your registered Gravatar e-mail for your picture to appear with your comment.
Commenting rules
- Personal attacks, or slurs against racial or minority groups are completely unacceptable.
- No spam, promotional (unless relevant to the discussion), or irrelevant comments.
- Please respect the rights of others to have their own opinions, even if they disagree with yours. The community our site serves is diverse, encompassing many people from all over the world.
- Do not discuss illegal behaviour such as illegally downloading/sharing episodes.
- Do link to interesting websites/articles that add to the discussion.
- Do not link to illegal content or pornography; if you are linking to something be honest in what you are linking to, people do not want an unpleasant surprise after following a link!
- Planet Family Guy is not a chat room. Comments are for adding your opinion on the topic being discussed only.
- Please try, as best you can, to use correct spellings, grammar, and punctuation; turn-off caps-lock before writing your comment, we don’t want ‘shouty’ posts.
Commenting on a particular article closes after six weeks. This is to prevent spam and ensure that people are commenting on the most up to date information on the site. The site administrators may close commenting on a particular article before the standard closure date if appropriate.
Our forums have there own set of rules that differ from those of the main site which you may want to familiarise yourself before contributing there.
Article Posting Rules
The following rules are intended for the staff writers and guest contributors of Planet Family Guy. They outline what is acceptable and correct practice for posting on this website. They are intentionally made public to the whole community.
- The subject of articles must be in some way related to Family Guy or one of its spin-off series; posts about cast members, writers, or other crew from the series are also encouraged.
- Do not post links to your own works. Planet Family Guy is not for self-promotion; linking to your own site, one you are associated with, content you have written or that has been written about you is considered bad etiquette and will be removed and your posting rights may be taken away!
- Posting of, or linking to, illegal content, or encouraging such behaviour is not acceptable and will be removed and your account with us closed.
- All articles need a title; please make them clear, unambiguous, and unique.
- Links to source material must be provided at all times. Link text should be descriptive, avoid “click here” style linking.
- If you think the material you are linking to is work-unfriendly (not suitable for viewing in the work place) provide a warning such as “NSFW”.
- Links to subscription based sites should be avoided if possible; if you do post links to such sites please indicate that the linked material requires a “subscription”.
- Do not copy and post articles from other sites; do quote content, but always reference the source (linking to the original article). Paraphrasing is considered acceptable. Quotes should always be contained in quotation marks.
- When posting about an article on the web, try to pick out the main points rather than reproducing the entire article.
- Keep opinions to yourself, articles should be unbiased reporting. If you want to express a personal opinion then this should be done through the comments, or on the forums; however, bitching, venting, or slurs against racial or minority groups is considered unacceptable at all times!
- If you are unsure whether the information has already been posted then please search our article archive (either through the admin section or on the main site).
- As a general rule about posting content relating to an air date or release date, such as the premiere of a particular episode or release of a DVD, it is acceptable to repost information on the actual day, and a week in advance if the information was originally posted some time before. Any new information not previously reported can be posted at any time.
- Use proper grammar, capitalization, and spelling as best you can. This ensures that articles are easy and clear to read for all.
- Before you post, ensure that no one has already posted the information on the site in order to avoid double posts.
- Before you publish, re-read what you have written to check for mistakes and that it makes sense; make use of the “preview” tab, or “view” the article whilst it is saved as a draft (this shows what it will look like on the site).
- Do not sign off at the end of articles, your name will automatically be added to your post (linking to all your contributions to the site). No sigs/quotes, etc. at the end of posts please.
- Please try to use one or two of the most relevant categories as this helps link related articles together, improving site navigation. Ensure that you are posting in the most relevant section too.
What makes a good Planet Family Guy article?
- Quality always overrules quantity!
- Before posting something remember to think: is it interesting? Has it been seen before? Will it spark discussion? Will fans care?
- When in doubt contact the site’s administrators. You can always post an article as “pending” so that an administrator/editor will check it before it gets published on the site.
- Take a look around Planet Family Guy for examples of good posts. Like the following examples:-
Spoilers
- Spoilers are defined by Planet Family Guy as any information about episodes that have not yet aired on American television, or the country of origin.
- Please do not post spoilers in titles.
- When posting spoilers, use the “Spoilers” category.
- Remember that Planet Family Guy has an international audience.
Media
If you want to include images or videos in your posts then the following rules are very important.
- Please do not embed images or videos in your posts; only use the methods described below to include images and videos in your contributions to the site.
- Links to images/videos are acceptable as long as they adhere to the usual rules about acceptable links.
- Youtube videos can be attached to your articles by pasting the Youtube url (or video ID) in the “Youtube” field under “Advanced Options”. This will automatically embed the video into your post for you.
- Only link to legal videos posted on Youtube; use the official channels for Fox and Fuzzy Door Productions where possible.
- Articles may have an image associated with them; the correct way of doing this is by entering the image ID from the images database into the “Article image” field under “Advanced Options”. This automatically embeds the image at the top of the article.
- Do not use images hosted outside of Planet Family Guy, and only use the method described in the above rule. Check with the site administrators if you are unclear.
- If you add an image to the database it must adhere to the following rules:-
- Images must be no wider than 450px, and wherever possible no less than 400px; with a maximum height of 500px.
- Thumbnails must be 120px wide by 90px high (thumbnails are created on upload of the main image, but can be replaced by a custom thumbnail).
- Where possible, use free, non-copyrighted, images. Always acknowledge the image owner in the “Caption”; for example “Picture: Fox.” Or, for photographs, “Photo: New York Post.”
- Always provide a brief, descriptive caption, followed by the image owner’s acknowledgement (see above rule).
- Images must be relevant and work-safe.
- Provide alternate text for browsers that will not display images.
- Administrators will assign categories to images where appropriate (you do not need to worry about doing this yourself).
Finally
The site administrators and editors word is final! Do not publically complain about decisions made by admin on the site.
The site administrators and editors may make small changes to posts, or delete content deemed inappropriate.
