MacFarlane expects American Dad episode ban

Seth MacFarlane

Speaking at this year's summer TCA press tour Seth MacFarlane has said that he expects one of the upcoming American Dad episodes to get banned by Fox.

The Dad team have just completed about a year-and-a-half's worth of new episodes for the series and Seth expects at least one of these to get banned. He doesn't know which one, but knows that there are several controversial jokes lined-up. For example a preview of Whom the Sleigh Bell Tolls (the upcoming Christmas special) was shown which ends with a young boy mowing down Santa's elves with a machine gun.

Several episodes of Family Guy have already been banned in the past, and then successfully released on DVD. It's good for publicity, "it's a structure that's been good for Family Guy," Seth said. "It looks like a sales ploy, but it isn't ... that episode [Partial Terms of Endearment] really was unacceptable to the network."

The sixth season of American Dad starts on Fox October 3rd with it's 100th episode! The banned abortion episode of Family Guy, Partial Terms of Endearment is out on DVD and Blu-ray from September 28th.

  • Huge change is in store for the next season as Hayley gets married!!!
  • Seth MacFarlane on rivalry with The Simpsons: "It was invented by the press. It doesn’t exist."
  • Rumours of an American Dad movie may very well be just that (shame)

"Stan" made an appearance at the American Dad signing.

FCC propose a $25K fine over an episode of American Dad

Don't Look a Smith Horse in the Mouth

The Huffington Post is reporting that the FCC has proposed a $25,000 fine to Fox after they failed to respond to questions about a scene from American Dad that attracted 100,000 complaints.  The episode in question is Don't Look a Smith Horse in the Mouth and the scene is one in which it was implied that Stan had masturbated a horse.

In the episode Roger says to Stan: "You have to brush the horse's coat and mane, water and feed it, and then give it a full release ... You know, give it a happy photo finish. Take the glue out of the factory. Spank his front butt. Grant him a bone loan."

Of course the PTC have been vocal on this matter (as you'd expect), in a press release they said the following:-

A broadcast television network aired an animated program on a Sunday evening when children were in the audience, and the program featured a man masturbating a horse. Up until now, I never imagined that those exact words could ever be spoken in that particular order. But sadly, here we are ...

Under what definition of 'contemporary community standards' is the Fox broadcast standards department operating? The fact that this material even made it to air demonstrates the network's contempt for families. It also demonstrates their complete and utter disregard for the terms of their broadcast licenses that allow them to deliver their programming and their advertisements into every home in America for free.

Fox reveal new season schedule - American Dad bumped mid-season (again!)

Animation Domination 2009/10 American Dad promo image

Fox have announced the Animation Domination schedule for next season, and sadly it seems that once again they are kicking American Dad into the 7.30pm death slot mid-season. Yes, just like this season when the Smiths made way for the spectacularly unsuccessful Sons of Tuson, 2011 will see it bumped by a new show; this time round its a new animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers created by Loren Bouchard.
