John Riggins on Tank Bates

Daddy Queerest

Former American football running back John Riggins has spoken to The Washington Post about last week’s episode of American Dad which featured a character that appears to be a tribute to him. “Tank [Bates] was a former Pro-Bowl fullback and accomplished ball carrier for the Washington Redskins, a stocky white guy, beloved by fans, who wore the No. 44.” The character Tank was portrayed as a raging homphobe who rejects his gay son Terry. Riggins said that he didn’t think that would be a major issue for him saying, “I would hope I’d be a little more open-minded than Tank.” According to the Post he was originally unaware of the episode, but found it “hilarious” when shown it on the Internet.
