FCC propose a $25K fine over an episode of American Dad

Don't Look a Smith Horse in the Mouth

The Huffington Post is reporting that the FCC has proposed a $25,000 fine to Fox after they failed to respond to questions about a scene from American Dad that attracted 100,000 complaints.  The episode in question is Don't Look a Smith Horse in the Mouth and the scene is one in which it was implied that Stan had masturbated a horse.

In the episode Roger says to Stan: "You have to brush the horse's coat and mane, water and feed it, and then give it a full release ... You know, give it a happy photo finish. Take the glue out of the factory. Spank his front butt. Grant him a bone loan."

Of course the PTC have been vocal on this matter (as you'd expect), in a press release they said the following:-

A broadcast television network aired an animated program on a Sunday evening when children were in the audience, and the program featured a man masturbating a horse. Up until now, I never imagined that those exact words could ever be spoken in that particular order. But sadly, here we are ...

Under what definition of 'contemporary community standards' is the Fox broadcast standards department operating? The fact that this material even made it to air demonstrates the network's contempt for families. It also demonstrates their complete and utter disregard for the terms of their broadcast licenses that allow them to deliver their programming and their advertisements into every home in America for free.

This is so ridiculous. The FCC is wasting there time trying to enforce censorship. With the internet it seems impossible to censor anything. I think if they censor too much they know they will harm business so I think they impose small meaningless fines to appease the conservative fanatics. BTW Family Guy is one great show. Thanks for the great site.

This is absolutley ridiculous. People know the kind of content portrayed in American Dad and Family Guy. If you find anything they do or say offensive, DONT WATCH IT! and deffinatley dont let your children watch it. Many people (including me and my family) LOVE these shows. There are plenty of other shows on t.v. to watch, so why watch something you may find offensive? People have nothing better to do in their boring meaningless lives, than to annoy others and find things to complain about.

if little kids are watching a adult program then it’s the parent’s fault for this not a adult show showing adult content spongebob should be removed not this.

The FCC can’t be blamed for this because they are just doing their jobs. The real problem is these extremists from the PTC. These people are poor parents that expect the TV to teach their children good values, BUT when it doesn’t they would rather hand off their responsibilities as parents to the FCC.

What moral right does the PTC have to tell the rest of America what to watch? Well that’s what they are doing by guilting sponsors out of funding these shows! It just proves that anyone with a loud enough and not to mention annoying enough voice can make things happen.

Something needs to be done about these extremists because they will never stop. Is there any organization out there that combats these nutjobs? Because in the end we will lose all the shows we love just because some lazy bastards can’t raise their children.

Anyone who honestly believes American Dad and/or Family Guy are suitable for children to watch have obviously never seen either show – they are ADULT animation, lampooning ADULT themes… This is why they’re not shown before 9pm (in the UK anyway).

Just as an aside… they’re bloody hilarious & brilliantly written, too.

“give it a happy photo finish. Take the glue out of the factory. Spank his front butt. Grant him a bone loan”

    Excellent :-)

The lash out to these shows is probably just due to parents passing the blame for bad parenting skills. “It wasn’t me, it was… it was… Canadian Dad!”…“American Dad.”
“American dad has ruined my children whom I verbally abuse!”
