Futurama returns to production, following Family Guy's lead

Futurama

Whilst not exactly Family Guy related, Matt Groening’s Futurama, that was cancelled by Fox back in 2003, is to return to US television with new episodes in 2010! Futurama‘s return to production is thanks to strong DVD sales and repeat airings on cable, the second series in the history of the medium to make such a return the first being Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane may have started a new trend!

The new 26 episode season will be shown on Comedy Central rather than its original home of Fox. Expect to see the new material from mid-2010.

Futurama is one of my favourite shows and it is good to know that there are more episodes coming. I just hope that it doesn’t come back as a poorer version of what it once was as I fear has happened to Family Guy.

It would be interesting to see if Fox actually pick it up for its own schedules to make Sunday nights a little less MacFarlane dominated.

I love Futurama so seeing it back is very good for me. I don’t have cable so I can’t see it but at least it’ll come out on DVD at some point, hopefully. :)
