Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show, says his “perfect scenario” would be to do the show for “another couple of years and then wrap it up.”
“I don’t want to go 20 years like The Simpsons,” Seth told Sun Media. “Ideally we would go another couple of years and then wrap it up. That would be my perfect scenario.
“I mean, I can already see it coming. I can already see the … we’re in season eight, and it gets harder, it gets harder and harder to do new stuff. I mean, every show starts to suck after a certain point. And we could already be there for all I know, I don’t know.”
Seth MacFarlane was then later asked if he ever would consider taking a step back before the world tires of him. “I would like to do that, yes,” MacFarlane said. “Absolutely. I would like to be done before they’re done with us.”

It would be good if Family Guy ended on Seth’s terms rather than when Fox decide to axe it. From recent seasons it seems that the ideas are beginning to run low, so it could do with being brought to an end, perhaps going out with a real bang!
There will still be Seth’s other projects. American Dad could surely go on for a while longer.

Family guy is the best thing on tv at the moment and fans will be really upset if this show gets cancelled!!!!
I agree with willie it should go on for another 5-10 years…the simpsons did and family guy is so much better!!!

@liam, Seth MacFarlane is talking about ending it, not getting cancelled. If the creator of the show says enough is enough then there is little point it attempting to keep going without him fully on board.

I think you should go till at least 2012 or 2013 and then make a movie I love family guy as much as any TV show out there when it started on January 31,1999 it was a good show no that its been 10 years almost 11 years aim sad to see it go but if Seth will end the family guy franchise with a awesome episode and a movie not on DVD but on the big screen i thing that will be pretty cool I think there will be a lot of sad people and I will totally be one of them to see one of my all time favorite shows to go away but what ever Seth McFarland does I will totally support it.

i can see 2012 maybe a BIT after…he is contracted to make episodes till 2012, which should give him enough to keep airing till, eh, 2013-2014 ..considering the usual family guy airing schedules…i hate to see it ever go, but it has to happen eventually, but until then lets enjoy what is left instore for us huh? plus i bet the series finale will definitely end it with a bang..
