The morning after the 150th episode

Brian and Stewie locked in a vault

Last night Fox aired the 150th episode of Family Guy.  The episode, Brian & Stewie, had the two characters locked in a vault.  According to early figures 7.69 million of you tuned in to watch the episode.  However, it would appear that the episode that featured no cutaways and focused more on the drama left many disappointed.  We've received a lot of comments on our article about the episode posted yesterday.  From what you've told us so far it seems that you're mostly unhappy about the milestone episode, although we have received some positive feedback, including those who liked the show's change from the norm.

Here's a taste of what you've been telling us over at Twitter:-

MoneyLover45: @planetfg If it was the one where brian and stwie was in the bank safe than yeah i thought it was pretty funny

thatssojeff: @planetfg I thought it was one of their best. It definitely paints Brian in a different light.

jhildre: @planetfg it was too wierd for my taste.

Cyndi_McFarland: @planetfg Nope - was disappointed as well.

Keep your comments coming (oh, and any positive comments would be welcome I'm sure many of you loved this episode too!)...

Epic episode! A theatre-type piece that was artsy-fartsy in a good way, instead of just fartsy. I’m not ashamed to say it made me tear up a few times, but it also made me laugh and gross out too. Just an all-around solid, memorable show – Happy 150th, Family Guy! Hope there’s many more to come.

This episode was terrible… people like Family Guy for its humor. This was a drama. It isn’t like the episode was SUPPOSED to be funny. It was legitimately a drama. Nobody tunes into Family Guy to see that.

We want the funny, stupid, wacky Quahog family… not talk of love, suicide, and any other conflicts that arise in drama like this episode contained…. It was so boring.

And I hate the musicals. Every time the show has someone singing, I hate it. After the incredibly boring first 30 minutes, I had no desire to watch the musical part.

I never thought I would see an episode of Family Guy and regret watching it.

1 Laugh at the beginning and that was it really. In essence it’s just a middle finger to the fans of the show. Although I find the musicals funny it’s just crap I seen before. Family guy isn’t known for this like Mark said above no one tunes in for this.

If I ever had to see an episode like that again I would probably stab myself in the face with a blunt spoon.

It was boring because they were locked in a bank vault the whole episode.Their really isnt a whole lot u can do with a story like that unless you have some brilliant dialogue going on between the two characters. The whole diaper thing was just for shock value and the conversation between stewie and brian felt like lazy writing for the most part.Im one of the people who feels like most of the jokes should be within the story but this just sucked.I think this episode was more of an experiment that went wrong and my hats off to the writers for trying something different but in my opinion it didnt work.

Although it was a good effort to prove to Family guys critics and haters such as South park, that it can make a show that doesn’t have random flashbacks or spoofs. It doe’s feel like Family guy are basically saying “Yeah South park! Yeah Simpsons take that!” two years too late of course. It was weird to adjust to this idea of no spoofs or flashbacks for me personal, a long time Family guy viewer. Maybe if I see it again on my computer, TV or a Family guy DVD then maybe I will understand it better and enjoy it more. The only thing that ruined this episode was making up the last half hour with random Family guy musical clips. Clearly they couldn’t fill an hour with Brian and Stewie trapped in the vault or the network made them do it.

Family guy, keep up the good work. I loved the episode, but I knew many would be disappointed. Hope there will many new episodes to come. Also American Dad has been getting better and better.

@Mick – American Dad is definitely getting better and better. I wonder what they’ve done for the 100th episode that should air next season?

i don’t think the episode was meant to be funny, I think they were trying to show brian and stewie in a seriously light. Like how Brian wants to know what the meaning of life is, and Stewie admitting to Brian that he would be lost with out him. If you ask me, it was a touching episode, except for the poo eating. lol.

In spite of the so called low-brow humor we see on our every day Family Guy, it is a very smart show. It just cleverly hides that fact as not to upset the norm. Yes, this episode was very different and people fear change but truthfully Brian and Stewie did nothing out of character. We aren’t usually with them for such a length of time, real or imagined. In this case it seems that fans’ expectations bit them in the ass. The fact that the FG staff chose not to do exactly what you’d expect for their 150th landmark is actually kind of cool. A big splashy song and dance would’ve been fun but expected. And not to get too deep, landmarks change over time, that’s why learning the street names is important. Yeah, lost some of you there. It was different but I still liked it, and I love it when that man sings, reguardless of who’s mouth it comes out of.

I love family guy but that episode was just terrible. It made me quite angry i don’t watch shows like family guy for drama its my low brow show the one i watch and leave my brain at the door. The only reason they got to 150 episodes was not doing ones like the 150th episode. South Park had it right with there 200th episode it played tribute to all the stuff that made it so successful.

I can’t believe that Seth messed up the shape of the Glenfiddich bottle. it’s supposed to be triangular. instead it’s a Glenlivet bottle with a Glenfiddich label… a little upsetting seth.

@danny, I know what you’re talking about but the show is a comedy so details as small as that probably just get ignored.

  17. MJD on Thursday May 13, 2010 at 01:08:31 PM said:

It was definitely different but nothing had changed. I think the suicide part was Seth’s way of saying even though Stewie and Brian take shots at each other constantly, deep down they care a lot for each other, which is usually why people do it. Because Family Guy is a cartoon and comedy and not all drama Seth is showing their love for each other with insults instead of hugs and kisses and all that boring crap. So if you didnt like this episode obviously youre not that big a fan of the show and you didnt understand the message trying to be sent through…ONE OF THE BEST
