South Park aired an election special episode on Wednesday based on Obama winning the US Presidential race (as he did). The episode, About Last Night…, featured excerpts from speeches given by Obama and John McCain the night before. Trey Parker and Matt Stone (the South Park creators) had bet on an Obama win. “Well, we’re just going to make the Obama version, and if McCain somehow wins, we’re basically just totally screwed,” Parker said in an interview with the LA Times.
Where did the inspiration for the episode come from? According to Trey Parker, “Family Guy“.
“Parker was committed to doing an episode on the election for this week’s show once he heard about a McCain-Nazi joke on Family Guy, which recently stirred some controversy. He called the scene, which showed the Stewie character dressed in a Nazi uniform and outfitted with a McCain-Palin button, ‘lame’ — amongst a series of expletives not suitable for publication.”
Trey Parker and Matt Stone are no fans of Family Guy having publicly condemning the show in the past. About Last Night… was a chance for them to try and get one-up on MacFarlane’s show.

I think matt and trey are right about family guy.If they were bashing the first three seasons than id have to disagree.Family guy has became a very preachy show as far as politics go and most of the gags are either febal attempts at humor or just dont make any sense. All in all though i think seth is a very talented person and has created a great cast of characters, its just i dont like the direction the show has taken since it returned to television.

I caught one of the early episodes on TV the other night and apart from Meg not sounding right (no Mila Kunis) I did think it worked better than the randomness of more recent seasons.

Back then the cutaways and gags really worked a lot better and most of the time fit into the story. Now it just seems as if there trying to force as many cutaways in as possible.

I don’t think Family Guy is that funny either. Not just because it has become preachy (politically, that is) but because a lot of their jokes aren’t that funny anymore. Family Guy used to be filled with laugh out loud hilarious moments. Memorable jokes that you’d quote to your friends about. The show isn’t as funny as it used to be. For every ten jokes they throw out there (and they throw a lot of jokes out there) only one or two might be funny. And even then they’re only worth chuckles—not full blown fall out of your seat laughter like the show used to be.
They also used to be really good at bringing the story together despite cutaways. A lot of the times the resolutions are anti-climactic or just don’t make sense. Sure Family Guy doesn’t make much sense all the time, but at least their used to be a story and a point to each episode. Now they throw all that stuff into the background in favor of so many jokes that just aren’t funny.

Some people just want to get their opinions out to try prove a point.
I love Family Guy. I don’t know much about politics – but I understand that Family Guy causes controversy meaning for a lot of haters. But I’ll always be obsessed with Family Guy, I don’t give a shit what anyone says. =)
