Family Guy - Worst TV Show Of The Week

Posted by Mikenomn on Monday, January 09, 2006

The Parents Television Council has once again labelled Family Guy as being the “worst TV show of the week” for the last week of 2005. The author of the review summarized “The Father, The Son and the Holy Fonz” with this tidbit:

It isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last time that the writers of The Family Guy take something as personal and meaningful as religion and mock it in the most superficial and narrow-minded ways for the sake of being outr

Family guy rules and i dont give a dam about the parents television council

  2. John (Mon 09 January 2006)

I miss the good old days when Family Guy was all about the sly "hints" about what REALLY goes on with beloved pop culture icons and government, religion, etc. I am disappointed with the new batch of episodes (excluding PTV), which seems to me that they are just trying to be offensive and not sly witty humor. Sure, it has its moments, but it is NOWHERE near as good as the first three seasons and over half of season 4's.

I mean, honest to God--take the F-words out of South Park and it would be less offensive than Family Guy. And family guy isn't any funnier for being more offensive.

I'll still watch it, but I don't think I'll buy the second half of season 4 on DVD.

  3. chinchiggy (Mon 09 January 2006)

jeez people stop whining cuz u have nothing better to do if u dont like it then ignore it and dont watch the show!

  4. Beamer (Mon 09 January 2006)

We've made this list so many times in the past, who really cares? Religious people - simple sollution: If it offends you, DON'T WATCH IT.

  5. joey (Mon 09 January 2006)

i have been going to a catholic school for 13 years and i didnt find it to be offensive in the least bit...why dont you respect how every episode gets funnier because of seth mcfarlanes brilliant mind and just let the millions upon millions of fans that watch the show enjoy it without trying to ruin the fun and clever humor behind it

  6. captainpete (Mon 09 January 2006)

What makes you think they were joking?

  7. Pea (Tue 10 January 2006)

I've seen worst content on the 700 Club.

  8. Fizk (Tue 10 January 2006)

Come on! PTC! Just because FG has a slight defective idea to children doesn't mean it is the worst TV show. Even PTC is being "SUPERFICIAL" too. FG rules!

  9. krissi (Tue 10 January 2006)

it's a cartoon... stop taking things so literally and you wont be offended... i'm a christian and the religious jokes dont offend me at all because i have a sense of humour and dont take everything literally... loosen up or dont watch the show...

  10. Adam (Tue 10 January 2006)

It's a great show! It may offend some people but they take it too seriously, no sense of humour like the parents television council

  11. stewjarv (Tue 10 January 2006)

there a simpale way for the parents television council to advoid the programe just turn the bloody tv off at the end of the day family guy is still the best show on at the moment! BRIAN FOREVER!

  12. jermaih twaine (Tue 10 January 2006)

I agree with the PTC. They are the adults here...i doubt any of you are over 30. You don't have kids, and you don't realize how impressionable they are. haha sorry i was bored...famliy guy rulz the PTC can kiss my f*ckin ass

  13. John (Tue 10 January 2006)

And I agree. If you don't like it, you can turn the TV off. I'll still watch it, but I'm just disappointed.

  14. darkkhorse68 (Tue 10 January 2006)

Organized religion is so sensitive when humor is poked at it's dogma. Thank God that this is America and Family Guy is not banned because it ruffles the feathers the feathers of the simple minded.

  15. Andrew (Tue 10 January 2006)

I'm a youth pastor, and watch family guy every week. I own the seasons on dvd and am a huge fan. I hate the word organized religion, to me it's not a religion its a relationship. That is why I'm not big on being a member of a church, membership isn't going to get me to heaven. But in defense of the PTC the show can cross the line many times, but it is the parents job to regulate what their kids watch not the government or some kind of religious group the wants to force God down everyone's throat. Thats my job :)

  16. Shian (Tue 10 January 2006)

I t is not reality TV and it is just there for entertainment purposes. I am a devoted christian, I must say and frankly this show is not a hindrance to my spiritual development. I just find it ideal for a good laugh and folks will only be offended if they take it seriously, which I don't and people shouldn't either.

  17. Stewie The Porn Star (Tue 10 January 2006)

Parents are wrong Family Guy is the best Show for children!I love South Park, but Family Guy is not nearly offensive as South Park

    P.S: FAMILY GUY RULES

  18. doodymin (Tue 10 January 2006)

FAMILY GUY IS NOT A FAMILY SHOW! why don't they realize that!?!? If they don't like it then they should turn the goddamn tv off or change the channel when the kids come in the room! that's what my parents did for me when south park was new!

  19. Mike (Tue 10 January 2006)

If the PTC spent half as much time teaching parents how to be better parents instead of watching so much TV this would be a much better world! Come on PTC get a life! Family Guy is not the problem bad parents are the problem! And yes I am a parent and yes I am over 40! Family Rules!!!

  20. Irish Guy (Tue 10 January 2006)

Wow... Just went onto the PTC website... How right wing can you get?! Over here, people understand the concept of the watershed, where parents usually prevent their kids from watching adult entertainment after a certain hour... According to them, 20 people get paid full time to monitor shows that were never intended for children in the first place! In Ireland, heads would roll for such a waste of money! If the PTC is aiming to protect children, could they not spend their time researching any underlying adult themes in daytime television as opposed to condemning adult television as "immoral". Impressing their own ideals in a way as to condemn a programme or network is, in itself, irresponsible. Tsk tsk, PTC... Shame on you!

  21. TimH (Tue 10 January 2006)

    "narrow-minded ways"
Yeah, they sure do describe themselves.

  22. Scott (Tue 10 January 2006)

That episode did not even make fun of religion; it made fun of some people's fanaticism towards it. FG is still the best show on TV, it's 90% of what it was in the first 3 seasons, but that's still 100 times funnier than anything else on.

  23. Daniel (Tue 10 January 2006)

I'm Catholic. I loved the joke "Let he who is without sin kick the first ass." It was hilarious!

  24. Jeremy (Wed 11 January 2006)

QUIT TELLING ME WHAT TO THINK IS FUNNY! If you don't like a show, you have every right to turn it off, so freakin' turn it off and quit bitchin' about things that you have no conern with!

  25. edward (Wed 11 January 2006)

ya know, i was wathcing a soap opera today, and im sure i saw half a breast and def a lot of almost naked girls. and guess what, thats in the day. but lets take something into consideration. yeah, soaps are aired at a time where kisd are in school; family guy is aired to be when kids are in bed. its a whole time frame issue. and plus, there are ratings for all of this stuff, and its so that parents know what is suitable for their children. its like the esrb for video games, kids cant buy certain games cuz of ratings, and thats why more harshly rated shows come on later. its good that the PTC is donig their job, but i think they are just bored and yelping a lot more than anything.

  26. Repoman (Wed 11 January 2006)

Maybe if the PTC weren't so " superficial and narrow-minded " themselves, they could see it was just a joke. Lighten up, churchy!

  27. FG Fan (Wed 11 January 2006)

Family Guy is the best show about! Im a catholic and didnt find any of the religious comments in it offensive just hilarious! PTC should stop bitching about it! If you are offended by the show turn it off!

  28. Eric S. (Wed 11 January 2006)

These organizations often attempt to reach their goals through radical comments such as this one simply because the controversy surrounding the issue gains their group publicity; (i.e. they are on a power trip and using any outlet to further their groups social status) Freedom of choice outweighs all.

  29. adrienne bauer (Wed 11 January 2006)

I love family guy it is the best comdey show on tv now of days sometimes you just need to laugh I do not offend anybody religions you belive what you wnat to belive thats you but lauging will not hurt anybody or offend anyone. it wont offend you it's a TV SHOW

  30. mtm (Thu 12 January 2006)

those who hate family guy shouldnt complain. i mean they should learn that kids don't swear because of tv, they swear because of their parents i mean parents swear all the time when they are PO'd at electricians or plummers or hurt themselves physicaly really hard and say "oh f***ing hell" or anything like that. so parents stop blaming the tv when really its your fault

  31. cortney (Thu 12 January 2006)

i say we hunt all people who hate family guy down and torture them until they like it mwahaha!

  32. Jim (Thu 12 January 2006)

The PTC is a joke. Religion is a joke. More violence and wars erupt from religious conflicts than anything I know of. It's so friggin' ridiculous that one's beliefs of "fairytales" can create such hostility in people. Give me a break!! People all over the world need to lighten up and stop dictating what is right and what's wrong regarding religion. Just mind your business and watch Family Guy with a smile! Idiots!

  33. HAHAHA (Thu 12 January 2006)

HAHA Blame tv and your parants what these kids need a good old fastioned up bringing even your mothers is my point look back to the early 1900 how people grow up this would teach you lot a thing or too

  34. Louise (Sat 14 January 2006)

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BLOODY WATCH IT!!!!!!

  35. aegis (Sat 14 January 2006)

Its just a cartoon i mean in america its soo important with religion.....i mean they over react, so what if the children stop believing in a religion its a choise they can do by them self. And as alla the others are saying why cant they just turn off the tv, Family guy rocks! And i think that family guy make you see the world how it really is

  36. *Doc Disco* (Sun 15 January 2006)

Well, it seems that another Holy Crusade against the Griffins is set up (Remember "Holy Crap!"?)... What a shame... if u don't wanna your kids watch this show, turn off the TV... If I enter a strip club, I know I could see some nudes, and it'd shameful of me If I play it moral posting "Close that X club cause it shows nudes...". If one watches FG, it's easy that the scripters are gonna moke something like religion, family affairs or Mr. President... Ain't it?

  37. Rob (Mon 16 January 2006)

Cant they take a joke? As brian said 'Thats vey christian of you belive what i say or il hurt you' :P
I think America should have bigger concerns to be honest.

  38. roberto (Mon 16 January 2006)

In the america of Jesus w.Bush i guess there isn't room for criticism to religion and it's truly depressing reality. Screw bush, the republicans an god bless family guy.

  39. Chris (Mon 16 January 2006)

I hate people who are so concerned about their damned religion. I saw a DVD in target 2 days ago that was meant to "expose the lies in the book The Da Vinci Code". For those of you who don't know, it has some anti-christian stuff in it, saying things like jesus wasn't crucified and he had a wife and a child. It said that things like this threatened to destroy christianity. WHAT BULL!!! A book is not going to destroy crap, and neither is family guy. I cannot wait to see what happens when the movie version of the da vinci code comes out and people are standing there yelling at the movie theater for being anti-semedic, when deep down they know that no one gives a damn. Poor, poor people...

  40. Snake (Mon 16 January 2006)

OMG this is just like GTA and people who oppose that. GTA doesn't teach kids to go out and shoot up a school, and companies who make games like GTA shouldn't be held responsible. Same goes for family guy. Kids aren't going to start hating a religion because of what they see on tv.

  41. Axl (Belgium) (Tue 17 January 2006)

If something like Parents Television Council gives a price (worst tv show), then it means that you are doing a good job.

  42. kevin (Tue 17 January 2006)

family guy is the best show on tv in my opinion but the thing about it is was there any thing funny about passion of christ no there wasnt so that obviasly isnt a means of makeing a cartoon funny the life and times of jesus christ doesnt sound like a knee slapper any way besides that ppl need to get over tv and believeing every thing it say or sugests thats just stupid for one thing if you were so much into tv it can controle your life lol whens the last time god controled your life and its just a cartoon bottom line

  43. Rob (Tue 17 January 2006)

You know, it's ironic, and somewhat hypocritical of some "christians" to get their feathers in a muss because of a tv show. I have noticed that lately in my radio listening area, several stations have changed over to a Christian format. One station in particular(which i USED to listen to quite often)didn't hesitate to tell me that if i didn't like their new programming, no one was "making me listen." This is very true. They went on to add that i could always "change the frequency, and find something more to my liking." Again, this is a true statement. What i want to know is this: If it's ok for ME to find other programming if i disapprove of what i hear on their station, why can't they do the same with T.V.and shut the heck up?

  44. James (Wed 18 January 2006)

Come on, Family GUy is the best show ever created. I am a very devout catholic, but I have no problem with that. Seth McFarlane is a genius for what he gives the audience in every episode. Stop worrying about your kids, because until they are 18, you control everything they do. The problem with America isnt the people who do these shows or have fun like this, it is you parents. You wine and wine to get your way, and never look at the other point of view. You are too narrow-minded, and if you dont like it you dont think anyone should enjoy it. If I didnt like your car, I wouldnt come and set it on fire, so dont do anything to our show. Stop labeling it the worst show in televsion, just leave it alone.

  45. Peter (Wed 18 January 2006)

These kind of crazy americans will destroy whole Amercia one day. Where is freedom? When a few mad people are trying to restrict whole world.

Just switch off your TV and go prey dude!

  46. aeg (Wed 18 January 2006)

You know i think they wouldnt react so much if it was an other religion you know, its critisisum that makes family guy funny. Cant they try to teach kids moral and to respect people then searching for TV program they can blame on.

  47. meg & stewie (Wed 18 January 2006)

You people are wrong .Im 12 yrs old and i watch family guy.Im reliogous but not eveyone thakes it bad .I dont. Some time i need a little funny in my life. its not bad. Parents Television Counci if you think it not right for kids then dont let your or your friend kids see it.so it not the worst show i have seen,it the best!!!im this girls brother im 10. I miss the good times when family guy was all about crap and stuff. it was very funny.its just tv you dummys, deal with it or don't watch it ,my god what in bloody hell is wrong with you people ,damm it!!! ~LEAVE FAMILY GUY ALONE ~

  48. Jay (Thu 19 January 2006)

I'm a Christian and I love Family Guy. But the First Amendment grants the PTC the right to list the show if it deems it offensive. And Family Guy is nothing if not offensive. What's being missed here is that the PTC list is a TOOL for parents. Unfortunately, most parents don't bother to USE the tools available to them and only cry foul when the issue is raised by the media. THAT'S the problem!

  49. Alex (Romania) (Thu 19 January 2006)

One has to keep things in perspective when somethiing like the "Parents Television Council" rates this show. Yes it mocks relogion, but it also mocks pretty much everything else too. From making fun of "getting the ball in a cup" to suicidal cults to the FAA, Family Guy takes pride in slapstick humor. Because the show is nearly pure slaptsick, the material on the show is unlikely to change. But I digress, I wanted to say that any publicity is good publicity, these guys aren't going to take the show off the air again when they've seen how many viewers it attracts.

  50. uno (Thu 19 January 2006)

"Kids aren't going to start hating a religion because of what they see on tv."

yes ,they start hating religions if those religions go and complain about everything. religions are digging their own graves in this way.

  51. Marcus (Sat 21 January 2006)

Parental blocks can solve all of parents' problems. There is a rating right when the program begins and after every commercial break. If you don't want your kids watching TV-14-rated television shows, then so be it. FOX gives a "user discretion is advised" notice everytime they show a preview for Family Guy. I think what television broadcasting stations do is pretty fair.

  52. FG FAN. (Sun 22 January 2006)

Honestly, I think screw the PTC they won't do anything about Family Guy if they think it's superficial and narrow-minded. If they don't like it that much why the hell are they watching it, such IDIOTS!

  53. robb l.b. (Mon 23 January 2006)

i am a christian go to a christion school and family guy is my faverate show. they make fun of religon in a funny way + better them than south park so parent telivision council can shove it

  54. Johno (Tue 24 January 2006)

I'm a christian i go to christian surfers and church i dont find family guy offensive at all i watch it each week even if it does make fun of your religion if you truely beleive a tv show shouldnt affect that so all the parental groups can go shove it. The parental television groups are just a bunch of fat people sitting around a tv having a cry about everything. I recon family guy should do an episode on them and just pay them out for a whole episode ....

  55. tjal (Wed 25 January 2006)

that's the essence of the show - to laugh out everything is possible and i really don't mind

  56. Dave in stall #2 (Wed 25 January 2006)

As a Mormon, and a Father of 2 small children (5 and 2)I must say family guy is freekin hilarious, I have watched since day 1 (when peter lost a sock in narnia)I let my 5 year old watch volume 1 dvd and she sings along with the chumba wumbas. The show is not for everybody, everybody doesnt have to watch. Turn the channel. The PTC can GTFO

  57. james (Wed 25 January 2006)

they only get offended by this because they let it offend them. sure t.v has an influence on todays youth, however, this show is intended to have "hidden adult humor." so even if the kids watch the show they dont exactly get the humor behind it. most kids just watch it because its just another cartoon

  58. kyle (Thu 26 January 2006)

I love family guy, I won't stop watching it because the parents television council doesn't like it. People who can't find the peanut butter jelly song hilarious does not have a good sense of humor. Family guy rocks!

  59. Adam (Thu 26 January 2006)

If you don't like the show don't watch it. don't sit there critizing it because you're to stuck up to find anything that could possibly be offensive anywhere close to funny. I'll I have to say to ppl like that is sit down and shutup.

  60. da man/lukas (Fri 27 January 2006)

if u dont watch family guy must not have a life it is the best show ever its better than south park and that is hard to bet:-D

  61. Pamilla Thiansawang (Sat 28 January 2006)

The PTC can F**K off coz if they dont wanna wathc family guy then no one's forcing them. I mean come on who wouldn't love family guy if they had some kind of sense of humor which i know that the ptc doesn't. If they wanna be good parents then they can shove their little kids in front of the tv and let them learn about real life.

  62. heather (Sat 28 January 2006)

come on,,,,,,,,get with the times,,,with all the bullshit in the world we need a great laugh now and than,,,and family guy gives us that laugh,,i hace 3 boys ages 3,10 and 12 and they watch family guy everynight with me,,,,so damn you vile people who hate this great show

  63. T.J. (Wed 01 February 2006)

The P.T.C. is just a bunch of over acting moms who think they are being the perfect parents, and raising their kids the right way, i've met alot of over protective mothers and let me tell you something, they really grind my gears!

  64. Dan (Wed 01 February 2006)

Nobody listens to the PTC anyways

  65. Mr williams (Mon 06 February 2006)

hmm. lets see organized religion. isnt that an oxymoron? and wars are started because of religion. someone gets mad because someone makes fun of a few things. come on now Go Fu** urselves.

  66. Harvey (Mon 13 February 2006)

family guy owns all, end of story. if u dont like it what are you doing watching it, its obvious you have nothing better to do with your time than complain about one of the most entertaining shows around

  67. becca (Sat 25 February 2006)

has anyone ever noticed that if u goto the PTC website and look at there best and worst shows.... ALL THE BEST SHOWS ARE BOOOORRRRINNNGG and all the worst shows for example : prison break, las vegas ,george lopez, NCIS ,and family guy: are all halarious and entertaining... is it just me or is PTC not trying to get kids to watch better shows. but to make kids dulll. with no since of humor. and/ or what gose on in real life! NCIS is REALITY and so is las vegas its wat our world is today its sad but true. so would u put united states on your silly worst list PTC??

  68. anti-christ (Thu 02 March 2006)

Family gu is an outstanding show. Sure there are a few questionable jokes, but no one can be on all the time. Also if the oppinons presented in the show are superficial ad narrow-minded tha why do you cae that they are there. Finally if you don't allow your kids to see how things fction in the real world they will end up carbon-copes of the parents who shield them, plus once they're in collee you won't e able to shield them anymore anyway so what's the point?

  69. Kevin K (Thu 02 March 2006)

I am going to dissagree with John because I actually believe that the newer episodes are more hilarious than the beginning episodes. They uset he flashbacks a lot more and let me tell you, they are spitting out pure gold right now. The show is better than ever...

    -Kévin

  70. marcello (Mon 06 March 2006)

family guy is the best show on earth it sould be the best t.v. show on air i think this show sould get a rate and when you see that family guy is good because the rate will be 9000000000 like and 0 that dont like and seth macfarlane is trying his best he is a good man thank you

  71. matt (Sat 08 April 2006)

Family Guy is the worst show ever created in the history of the universe. It isn't even a real show, it just copies from other shows. The animation and voice acting is also horrible. Anyone who watches this crap needs to get a life and stop rotting their brain with this unoriginal, unfunny show.
