"Stop Targeting Teens with Family Guy Raunch" - PTC

Posted by Andy on Sunday, January 29, 2006

The Parents Television Council have struck out against Family Guy again, calling for Fox to “stop targeting teens with Family Guy raunch”. Their complaint is that Fox is directly advertising the show to an unsuitable age group. You can read their press release here.

This sucks because people will look at Family Guy for targeting youths, and not FOX. Family Guy is meant for Adults, and unfortunately not everyone knows that.

  2. eddie (Sun 29 January 2006)

the PTC is one of the most annoying organizations out there today

  3. Festus (Sun 29 January 2006)

Good. I hope it's true FOX is targeting too young of an age group. With kids being complete weaklings these days with Barney, Teletubbies, and that Dora explorer, I say it's about time for them to toughen up. When I was little I watched people die on G.I. Joe. Toughen up kiddies, and go FOX!

  4. Eddy (Sun 29 January 2006)

It appears a lot of people still live with their minds in the middle ages. The PTC is just a form of censorship, something I thought was abolished a long time ago. It's really heades the wrong way if any form of humour or criticism is considerred "immoral" or something.

  5. Derek (Sun 29 January 2006)

If those crybabies dont like the show they can change the freakin' channel

  6. Pea (Mon 30 January 2006)

Great, these wankers again. Somebody please start a petition against the PTC and get them to realize that not everything is about sunshine and pretty rainbows.

  7. Jeremy Ott (Mon 30 January 2006)

I love those dumb bastards at the PTC. They actually think that they can make a difference by ruining television. I bet their idea of family programming would cause the neilson television rating system to go into a kind of stasis lock as everyone would stop watching tv all together.

  8. Beamer (Mon 30 January 2006)

Yeah, with all the references to 1980's culture, Family Guy must REALLY be targeted at teens. I'm sure they get all of THOSE jokes...

Face it, Family Guy may be an explicit show, but that's why people have choice, and that's why the remote was invented. Don't like it? Fair enough, don't watch. But don't take it away from everyone else just because you can't handle a few "raunchy" jokes. It's the parents' choice to decide whether or not to let young viewers watch this show - NOT YOURS. Butt out for once, PTC.

  9. Kim (Mon 30 January 2006)

You know the more they protest the more people will watch. And no one is really cares what they say. I mean its not in any newspapers or making headlines on TV. So I say to them too bad so sad!

  10. Aeg (Mon 30 January 2006)

lol lol lol lol, sorry just needed to say that, their saying that its not a show for teens but just face it all over the world people watchs family guy and enjoys it.You know teenagers are as smart as adults why the hell do they think that they shouldnt watch family guy. I mean how can family guy affect people are they going to do drugs and rob people just because they watched family guy. Or are the parents just afraid of kids that can think by them self and start to see that the world is not like their stupid parents says.

  11. Darrell (Mon 30 January 2006)

Here we go again with some ignorant bastards that probably watched 3 minutes of the show and formed a lousy opinion.. you know what really grinds my gears? You America, F*** You! lol

  12. your fat mother (Mon 30 January 2006)

I agree...This is an adult show, NOT targeting to teens. They wouldnt understand half the "jokes"

  13. family guys bigest fan (Mon 30 January 2006)

freedom of speech people will all ways watch family guy no matter what unless they start making shit episodes

  14. Me (Mon 30 January 2006)

Bahaha! I love Festus' comments, and I wholeheartedly agree with them. Kids these days are the biggest bunch of nancies ever. They need to realize the world is NOT the perfect happy go-lucky place they think it is. And another comment on "family" viewing. My little sister was watching some show on the Disney channel, and I came to the inevitable realization that all the women in that show were smokin hot ^_^ Hardly appropriate for little children, wouldn't you agree?

  15. Tanner (Mon 30 January 2006)

I got two words for em come on

  16. Tim (Tue 31 January 2006)

This is pretty sad. The PTC is sticking their noses in again into something that shouldn't have to be discussed. Like everyone before me has said, just change the channel if it offends you.

  17. Justin (Tue 31 January 2006)

Those bastards need to butt out for once an just change the channel. Not all in the world is their little happy land!

  18. Michelle (Tue 31 January 2006)

"Yeah, with all the references to 1980's culture, Family Guy must REALLY be targeted at teens. I'm sure they get all of THOSE jokes..."
--I'm 22 years old and don't get half the references that my PARENTS get from this show. To the PTC- you are certainly within your rights to tell your own kids what not to watch, but don't try parenting other people's kids... or restricting what ADULTS can watch merely because you're afraid your own kids might stumble upon it. Change the channel and let us watch what we want (and let other parents decide what's appropriate for their own children)... and if your kids stumble upon it? Talk to them about what they might have seen.... isn't that a part of PARENTING?!?!

  19. mikemike (Tue 31 January 2006)

bah the only thing worse then PTC is PETA....and its a close call...

  20. Dan (Wed 01 February 2006)

I read what the PTC said about family guy and teens and I have to say- What world do they live in where teens don't know about sex? It is painfully obvious to me that anyone who actually listens to the PTC already dosnt watch Family Guy. The PTC needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

  21. Cortney (Wed 01 February 2006)

Give me a break!... These so call "concerned" parents of these "innocent" teens should go to High School with them and listen to what they say and are exposed to from other teens, because they are not getting any of what they say from Family Guy (the censors wouldn't let them say what some teens say). PTC get over it!!!!

  22. Stewie Rocks (Thu 02 February 2006)

I reckon this is just tragic PTC only cares about wot they think. They can't seem to handle anything dat gets in their way to power. I know people who only think the way to power is to take it from others who have it. Dat describes the PTC and Family guy. It's like as if PTC thinks they're god. if wanna complain 2 them heres their email. letters@parentstv.org

  23. aeg (Thu 02 February 2006)

The US is like a land with lots of flowers and trees. But you know what PTC and those things are, they are a big fat tree that blocks the sun for all the other and limit their vision. And some day when it comes a storm that big tree is not going to stand out against the wind and fall down to all the innocent plants beneath them.

  24. Tristan (Fri 03 February 2006)

I live in Belfast and I love Family Guy, it's the best show ever. Thankfully over here we don;t have as many fundamentalist assholes on a power trip. People reliase here that if you don;t like the show then you simply don't watch it, and if you're too much of a control freak to let your kids watch it then don't let them, pretty simple. All those fundamentalist Americans really piss the rest of the world off!

  25. evil luv (Fri 03 February 2006)

The PTC is just a bunch of crybabies that don't wanna worry about other issues. They also don't know how 2- piss off and stop worrying about other peoples kidz. They can't
even realise not everyone feels the same way about family guy.
As far as I know The PTC has 1 million supporters compared to the 12 million family guy viewers dat saw North by north Quahog. HEAR THIS PTC, YOU SUCK BALLS!!!!, YOU ARE GONNA US TELL US TO WATCHING STEWIE AND HIS FAMILY!!!!

  26. Beamer (Sat 04 February 2006)

Very good point Cortney, the sort of things that kids are exposed to in high school (and hell, even middle school) is far worse than anything that could ever be allowed on television.

  27. Jeremy (Sat 04 February 2006)

I'm with everybody else on this message board, if you dislike something, then you have the priviledge to change the channel. The PTC doesn't realize that the more that they complain about issues such as this, the more people are going to ignore them! I hope they burn in something that consists of fire or hell.

  28. Jordan (Mon 06 February 2006)

Have these people watched the episode with PTV? It is the parents responsibility to monitor what their children watch. If they dont like it they shouldnt have cable. This is America!!!

  29. sombody (Wed 08 February 2006)

personaly i agree with many here as for ptc i have not even a clue what there about but who cares in my eyes yes the world is not nice KIDS should not be exposed to adult humor children would not have as many problems as they have now as everybody trys to grow up to fast kids should have a child hood and learn life when they get to the age and then they wish they were kids again down to parents they should be more responsible and not judge somthing when they are to blame if my child done somthing i dident like he/she will know being strong yes but as many say schools we all been there all down to the other parents as well i say bring back the old days when decepline ment somthing

  30. Becky (Fri 10 February 2006)

How very sad...this is just pathetic - there is nothing in that show worse than what is talked about in teen friendship groups - surely these people realise that times are not as innocent as they are making out

  31. vince (Mon 13 February 2006)

im glad that there are new shows to ad on the legacy of matt grone and seth mcfarlane

  32. childhood is over (Thu 02 March 2006)

we are all desensitized and living on junk -- imagine what living without being numbed might be like

  33. Joanna (Mon 06 March 2006)

Get over it, if kids want to watch F.G then they can. We can make our own minds up, we don't need adults to think 4 us, i swear adults think they can control us.
    FIGHT THE MACHINE!

  34. Stuart Clarke (Tue 14 March 2006)

HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE MACHINE.

  35. Kid (Sun 23 April 2006)

you think you can stop kids from watching family guy, well think again, becuz you may have your special t.v blocks but we get around those 2

  36. Kodi Burdick (Mon 08 May 2006)

This is a free country my dad is fighting in iraq for me to be able to watch F.G. So if you don't like it change the channel if i want to watch it its my choice not some douche thousands of miles away.
