UK: Family Guy Series 5 DVD

Posted by Andy on Wednesday, July 26, 2006

We get loads of e-mails asking us why the last DVD set in the UK was called the complete fourth season yet only contained 13 episodes, and when will the next lot of episodes be released.

Well, the explanation for the last set being referred to as the complete fourth season is a bit of a mystery. We believe it is due to the fact that the previous three UK releases were referred to as season box-sets, whilst in the US those episodes were sold as two volumes sometime after the UK releases. The last box-set was a global release, the same set being sold internationally, but the naming conventions in the different countries were kept. UK (and similarly Australian) fans do not need to worry, we have the same number of episodes released on DVD, and the remainder of the episodes will appear on DVD. Which brings me to the next point of this post…

Play.com has put up a pre-release page for the next DVD set, Family Guy: Series 5. They are forecasting a 23rd October 2006 release date. I haven’t been able to see this confirmed elsewhere, so it is likely to be subject to change. We will keep you posted, and hopefully will have some more concrete news soon.

Amazon.co.uk are also listing the fifth season DVD for a 23rd October release date.

07/28/06: just to point out, we believe that this DVD is the remainder of the fourth season, not the fifth season. The online stores are calling it ‘Series 5’ hence that is why we have reported it as such. The details are still sketchy as we have yet to see an official press release from Fox Home Entertainment. Please do not e-mail us asking about this as we have told you all we know here.

08/04/06: Sendit.com is listing the episodes that will feature on the Series 5 set as: Peter’s Got Woods; Perfect Castaway; Jungle Love; PTV; Brian Goes Back to College; The Courtship of Stewie’s Father; Fat Guy Strangler; The Father, The Son, and The Holy Fonz; Brian Sings & Swings; Patriot Games; I Take Thee Quagmire; Sibling Rivalry; Deep Throats; Peterotica; You May Now Kiss The…Uh…Guy Who Receives; Petergeist and Untitled Griffin Family History. Yes we are aware that these are season 4 not 5, but this is how they are marketed in the UK (if you want to complain contact Fox Home Entertainment).

Amazon.co.uk are also listing Series 5 as a release for October 23rd.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000H5TI8S/planetfamilyg-21

It already has a sales rank and people are pre-ordering, even though nothing has been confirmed. Amazon are listing it at £18.99...

Thanks for noting that Adam. I actually tried to find this on Amazon at the time of making my original post, but couldn't find it.

Is this site made of people from the UK
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

@M money ball - we have a significant number of British visitors to the site. PFG was also formed from the merger of a British site, There's Something About Family Guy, and an American site, Stewie's Minions, six years ago, so aims to provide information for both sides of the Atlantic. We also try to provide news from Canada and Australia as they also make up a significant number of our visitors.

So if I have the Fourth Season of Family Guy (i live in the UK) - what do I do? are there episodes missing from my dvds?

I was so pissed when I bought season 4 and finding that the entire season wasn't on it. I felt as if I got ripped off royally. I mean paying a good 40 dollars on it and not even getting the full season. What the hell is up with that. They better make up for it is all I'm going to say. I think that they should not only put the rest of season 4 on dvd; but put the rest of season 4 as well as all of season 5 on the same boxed set and sell it a low price. Cause I'm pretty sure I'm not the only Family Guy fan who feels like they got ripped off. The producers of the show owe it to the fans to make up for it, cause without the fans Family Guy wouldn't have even come back on the air.

    it sucks

  8. Meg (Tue 08 August 2006)

The first 3 episodes of Series 5 are available on Volume 3 in the US. When will we get the rest of the episodes?!

  9. Andy@PFG (Tue 08 August 2006)

Meg, you are mistaken. There are no episodes of season 5 on the Volume 3 DVDs, just season 4 episodes. Season 5 starts on US TV on September 10th, so don't expect them on DVD any time soon. The remainder of season 4 has yet to be released in the States, for which we are still waiting for a release date.

I have seen famiy guy season 5 on CDwow.com with the same ralease date as play.com. CDwow.com are giving a pre-order price of £16.75 which is the cheapest i can find.

Maybe the 13 episodes are all of series 4 and the 'Volume 3' sold in the USA contained series 4 and 5. The DVD about to be released in october in the UK would then be series 5 on its own.

The series about to air in Autumn in the US is series 6 I think I have read, and if you go on play.com then there are series 6 products being released in Autumn.

This would explain the problem, as it is likely that the naming confusion is due to the on again off again nature of FOX's broadcastig of the show.

Indeed i do feel ripped off, however season 4 wasnt even aired in the uk, BBC2 only broadcasted season 3 saying they were all new episodes when in fact season 3 was the last to be shown on sky one.

  13. Kevin (Mon 14 August 2006)

I feel ripped off. I was truly hoping they could get all the episodes into the boxed set. it wasnt cheap! i counted 19 episodes missing from season 4. PETARDED is what that is.
