Bathing suits cause drownings...

Posted by Andy on Monday, August 07, 2006

So, the post’s title got your attention then. Good. Over the last few years there have been numerous articles about how Family Guy is a bad influence on kids, particularly from the PTC. Earlier this year the PTC complained at Fox for “targeting teens with Family Guy raunch”, but does watching TV shows with a significant amount of sexual content really drive teens to sex?

Well, an article posted today on the American Council on Science and Health website suggests that teens who ”...listen to sexual lyrics are just more inclined toward that form of entertainment, since it relates more to their personal experience.” Essentially, those who are already sexually active will be interested in watching shows that reflect this.

“Next time you see an article or study that purports to establish causation, first ask yourself whether it might just be an obvious association—and whether the writers might be advancing some other agenda by suggesting a causal connection. Otherwise, they’ll have you believing that bathing suits cause drownings, since 98% of drowning victims were wearing them at the time.”

An interesting opinion that I thought considering the amount of attacks Family Guy has had to put up with recently was worth reporting here.

And let's not forget - studies show that 62% of all published statistics are made up.

Isn't there some kind of warning? Like 14+, or this program is intended for people above 13? If you can't swim, stay out of the water.
