UK: New Family Guy DVDs out today

Posted by Andy on Monday, October 30, 2006 in Europe

Two new Family Guy DVDs are out today in the UK: Family Guy Season 5 (which is in reality the second half of the fourth season) and the Family Guy Collector’s Pack containing every episode from the first four seasons (although it refers to season 1 to 5 on the box). We are well aware that the labeling of the seasons on these DVDs are confusing, but for some reason Fox in the UK has decided to categorises the episodes differently to Fox in the States.

Originally Family Guy was only available on DVD in the UK and were sold as seasons 1, 2, and 3. Then the States caught up by selling those seasons as two volumes. Since then Fox has opted for global releases, which seems to have resulted in the UK DVDs continuing to be labelled as seasons despite not being complete seasons. UK fans do not need to worry though, as the same episodes are being released on both sides of the Atlantic.

Family Guy Volume 4 (the US equivalent of the UK season 5 release) is out in the US and Canada November 14th. Family Guy Season 5 is out in Australia tomorrow.

Why does the UK get it before America?

  3. Andy (Tue 31 October 2006)

Matt, it has always been that way for some reason. However, for the first three seasons it was released in the UK several years before the US so at least now you just need to wait a couple of weeks.

Hey in Virgin Megastores in the UK they are selling an alternative artwork set, it is all white and has Stewie pulling a moonie, the artwork isnt very good though and looks pretty dull, just thought I would give you the heads up! I had a peep online but I cant find any pictures on the net

I live in Australia and got this Yesterday! It is fantastic But… to shock horror, I only found 2 major special features; Commenatries and over 40 deleted scenes on Disc 3. Is this the same as R2 (the UK Release)? Why didn’t we get all the features that are to be included in the US Release?

just got this dvd and watched some of it , theres new scenes which i don’t recall like the funeral in the fat guy strangler

  7. Andy (Sun 05 November 2006)

Adam, walked past Virgin today and noticed a huge poster in the window of the alternative DVD cover you mentioned. Whilst not amazing, it is very striking as a poster. Certainly caught my attention.

Yeah, and the scene in PTV with the Douchebag show wasnt in the TV version I’m sure? Are these on the American DVD’s I wonder? Because in the first 3 seasons we had scenes that the Americans didnt have, like the JFK Pez dispenser…

  9. Darren (Wed 08 November 2006)

What are the extras on the Region 2 DVD?
Is it just Deleted Scenes (all that is mentioned on the back on the DVD set) or commentaries and featurettes as well?

  10. Andy (Wed 08 November 2006)

Darren, there are deleted scenes and commentries on the DVD set. I am not sure as I have yet to see a copy of the DVD, but I believe the following features are on it too (they are on the US version): A Director’s Life: Debunkingthe Myth, Peter Shin Draws Stewie, and A Tour of the Family Guy Offices. Can anyone confirm this?

  11. Darren (Wed 08 November 2006)

    Thanks Andy.
Does anyone have the DVD and can list the extras?

  12. brian (Sat 18 November 2006)

when will season 6 (season 5 to america) be out in ireland?

  13. conor (Wed 22 November 2006)

how come episode 28,29,30 where not on the DVD set in season 4

  14. Andy (Wed 22 November 2006)

Episodes 28, 29, and 30 are You May Now Kiss The? Uh? Guy Who Receives, Petergeist, and Untitled Griffin Family History which should be on the last disc. Perhaps you are getting confused with Stewie B. Goode (Part I), Bango Was His Name Oh (Part II), and Stu & Stewie’s Excellent Adventure (Part III) which were released separately as the Family Guy movie (http://astore.amazon.co.uk/planetfamilyg-21/detail/B000AM6NAY/).

    thanks

    Conor, no problem.

Brian, no I live in the UK and am British.

  18. Stu (Thu 23 November 2006)

Does anyone know when the next series of family guy will be for sale in the UK. Ive got the latest one just wondering about the series being shown on fox

  19. Andy (Thu 23 November 2006)

Seeing as Volume 3 was released in November 2005 in the US, and Volume 4 this month, and that the UK releases come out almost at the same time it might not be out until next November! At the earliest (at a guess) it could be out at Easter.

Fox will show the episodes on television in the US before they release them on DVD, and by December they will only have shown 8 new episodes!
